How should I prepare for my first tidying session?

No need to clean up before your first session. It’s helpful to see your home in its natural state so that we can get an understanding of how you spend your time.  Before our first session, think about your ideal life and how you want your home to reflect and support that. Feel free to have photos ready to show us-magazines and Pinterest are great sources! Have boxes and trash bags handy for donated items.

What if the people I live with are not interested in tidying up?

The KonMari Method™ is a personal journey. The sessions are conducted on a one-on-one basis. You will be making decisions about your own belongings only.  We cannot force the method upon others, but the other residents of your home may get inspired after they see your positive results and will want to tidy their spaces as well.

Will you make me throw away my items?

The KonMari Method™ is based on the idea that you keep items that bring you joy. We will look at every item in your home and ask the question: Does this Spark Joy? If it does, you will keep it and if not, we will gently discard it. What to keep is solely your choice.

DO I need to read Marie Kondo’s Books first?

It is strongly preferred that you have recently read either “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up or “Spark Joy” prior to starting your first tidying sessions. We want to make sure you are fully on board with the KonMari Method™ ideology and practice to make the most of your sessions.

How Long is each tidying session?

Each session is typically five hours long.  Five hours is the right amount of time to be able to see significant progress without becoming exhausted.

Will you remove my discarded items from my home?

We will work with you to find appropriate donation centers in your area that will either pick up your discarded items or allow you to drop them off.  The act of donating the items on your own finalizes the process of tidying.

The KonMari Method™ is a personal journey of exploration and inner soul searching to find out what truly sparks joy to someone. The journey is one that someone has to choose to take on their own, it cannot be forced or gifted. To be truly successful, a client must be ready to take the steps to work on themselves and see results in their home.

How many sessions will I need?

This will vary by household. It will depend on the number of items you have, how quickly you are able to make decisions about what to keep and how much progress we make at each session. Once we meet in your home, we will be able to offer a better estimate.
